α-Lipoic Acid for Antioxidation
CAS No.: 1077-28-7
What’s the α-Lipoic Acid?

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a bioactive molecule with significant health effects. The biological activity of ALA is attributed to the distinct antioxidant capacity of its dual-form system. It would help the oxidized ALA and its reduced counterpart DHLA (dihydrolipoic acid).
How it works?
ALA is the only known antioxidant with both water and lipid solubility, known as the “universal antioxidant”. This unique property enables ALA to enhance the body’s antioxidant capacity through various mechanisms. It includs the direct scavenging of free radicals, regeneration of endogenous antioxidants. And it also have the function of chelation of metal ions, and modulation of inflammatory responses.
Pharmacological Application of ALA
Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) boasts a unique combination of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and metal-chelating properties, which has established it as a promising core candidate for treating a wide range of diseases. These include neurodegenerative disorders, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, and cardiovascular diseases, laying a solid theoretical foundation for its future clinical applications. While large-scale clinical studies on ALA are still relatively limited, available experimental data and preliminary research findings have already verified its notable potential therapeutic value. Furthermore, ALA has been proven effective in relieving diabetic symptoms, mitigating diabetic neuropathy, and preventing the onset of diabetic cataracts.
